Brush Gallery's In Cold Blood Exhibition
Application Form


This 2D and 3D exhibition is open to all artists residing in Canada or the United States.


INFORMATION: A juried art exhibition celebrating cold-blooded creatures and the important part they play in the ecological balance of our planet. (Part of the Brush Gallery's Art of Nature Exhibition Series)

REQUIREMENTS: Open to artists in the U.S. and Canada. Work needn't be realistic, but must clearly depict reptiles, amphibians or fish. Any medium will be accepted. Sorry, no installations. Two dimensional work may not exceed 48" wide or 70" high. Three dimensional work may not exceed 50 pounds if delivered to the gallery by the artist or 30 pounds if the artist sends the work via FedEx/UPS. Work will be juried from CDs.

JUROR: Carel Brest van Kempen. We are honored that an artist and author of van Kempen's caliber has agreed to jury this exhibition. Carel's artistic mission has always been to deepen awareness of the natural world and how it functions. His work has been exhibited worldwide in such venues as The Smithsonian, The American Museum of Natural History, The British Museum and The National Museum of Taiwan. He has been named a “Most Honored Artist of Utah” (2002) and a “Master Signature Member” of the Society of Animal Artists (2008). He has illustrated over a dozen books, including Dinosaurs of Utah (1998), Biology of the Gila Monsters and Beaded Lizards (2005), Biology of the Boas and Pythons (2007), Urban Herpetology (2008), and Conservation of Mesoamerican Amphibians and Reptiles (2010) and authored the popular coffee-table book, Rigor Vitae: Life Unyielding (2006). COMMISSION: 40%, 30% for Brush Gallery Members.
If you are not a member, consider becoming one. There will be juried exhibitions in various media over the next year at the Brush and entry/jury fees for members are discounted. Click HERE to become a member.

INSURANCE: All work is insured while on gallery premises for approximately 70% of value, less a $500.00 deductible. Note: on claims exceeding $2500.00, our insurance company requires an appraisal by a certified art appraiser. You needn't provide this appraisal now, but will if you file a claim exceeding $2500.00.

EXHIBITION DATES: November 2 through December 7

EXHIBITION: This juried exhibition celebrates cold-blooded creatures and the important part they play in the ecological balance of our planet. It will be a mix of paintings, collage, fiber, photography, drawings and sculpture. Depending on sizes, between 30 and 40 two-dimensional and 20 to 30 sculptures will be accepted. The gallery has 9 pedestals capable of holding sculpture up to about 50 pounds if sculptors would like to use them.

Important Dates:

September 27: Application, CD and payment due at Brush Gallery no later than 4:00 pm
October 12: Notification of jury results
October 29 (Tuesday) noon - 4:00 pm and Oct. 30 (Wednesday) noon - 8:00 pm: Delivery of work to Brush Gallery
November 9: Artists' Reception 2 - 4 pm.
November 23: Massachusetts Audubon educational programming featuring live, cold-blooded creatures, 2 - 4 pm.
December 7, 2013: Exhibition closes at 4:00
December 8 and 9: Artwork pickup (noon - 4 PM), FedEx/UPS delivered work returned.


Delivery of Artwork:

Work may be hand-delivered or shipped by FedEx or UPS. Do not send by USPS.
Note: Unless a bar-coded return label is included with shipped work we’ll be unable to install your work. Contact UPS or FedEx online to download label or purchase at time of shipping. Work delivered late might not be installed

Measure/weigh to ensure work meets any size limitations before delivery. 2D work dimensions should include outer edges of frames. See weight limits below. Work not in compliance will not be exhibited. No exceptions.
