ART QUILTS LOWELL 2010: A Juried Exhibition

ART QUILTS LOWELL 2010 is a juried exhibition, organized by the Brush Art Gallery, to identify and encourage quilt artists. The exhibition will include art quilts from artists throughout the United States and Canada. The exhibition will provide an overview of some of the finest quilts being produced; it is a feature of the 2010 Lowell Quilt Festival August 12 - 14.

ELIGIBILITY:  Artists who are residents of the United States or Canada

METHOD OF SELECTION: Digital images on CD only (no slides or photographs)  

JURORS: Jeanne Williamson Ostroff and Linda Levin.

• Jeanne Williamson combines printmaking, painting, collage, and stitching in her art work. Her work can be seen in galleries and museums, and in many books and magazines. Jeanne was the recipient of the Quilt National 2005 award for Best of Show, and her quilt was on the cover of the Quilt National catalog. • Linda Levin has been making fiber art for thirty years, has been shown in galleries and at exhibitions all over the country and is in collections in New York, Washington DC and Boston. Visit her website at www.lindalevinart.com

ENTRY PROCEDURE: Artists may submit up to three entries. A $35 non-refundable fee made out to the Brush Art Gallery is required with entries.

• Only original art quilts completed within the past 4 years are eligible. All quilts must be no larger in height than 5.5 feet or width 4 feet and must be ready for hanging with a 3-6 inch sleeve (large enough to comfortably accommodate a wood dowel or wood/plastic slat). All quilts must be accompanied by dowels or slats. Dowels need hardware and slats should have hardware or holes for hanging. Quilts that don’t meet these requirements will not be accepted for hanging. Quilts should be clearly labeled on reverse with artist’s name and title of quilt.
• Please submit up to six high resolution jpegs on a CD. The total number of entries is three, which means there can be six images: the full quilt and a detail image for each quilt.
• Fill in the on-line application form below.
• After completing the on-line form, you will be e-mailed a copy of the form and asked to print it out, enclose it with a CD of your images and a check for $35.00 made out to the Brush Gallery & Studios at 256 Market Street, Lowell, MA 01852.  Follow the instructions of the e-mailed form.
• Note: all communication, including jury decision will be done via e-mail, so make sure to provide an e-mail address that you check frequently.

INSURANCE AND SALES:  All quilts will be for sale, unless otherwise specified. The Brush takes a 40% commission on quilts sold. The Brush insures all quilts on loan while they are at the Gallery.

PHOTOGRAPHY:  The Brush Gallery reserves the right to photograph quilts, and use photos of exhibited quilts for the purposes of documentation, education, and publicity. CDs will be returned to all artists except those chosen for the exhibition.

LOAN AGREEMENT: The Brush Gallery will e-mail a loan agreement form to all artists whose work has been accepted for the exhibition.

SHIPPING & DELIVERY: Artists are responsible for delivery (and insurance) of work in transit to and from the Brush Gallery. Accepted quilts may be hand-delivered or shipped by UPS, FedEx or USPS. If shipped, you MUST include a pre-paid return shipping label with your quilt(s). We cannot accept credit card numbers, checks for shipping or your UPS/FedEx account number. We cannot return shipped quilts that do not include a pre-paid return shipping label.

DIRECTIONS:  Route 3 N or S, or from I-495 N or S, take Lowell Connector to Thorndike Street (Exit 5B). Go to the fifth traffic light, just past the American Textile History Museum on left, turn right into the Lowell National Historical Park Visitor Parking lot.
